Sun Se Suraksha — Privacy Policy

1. What data we collect

Sun Se Suraksha collects the following data to provide its core functionality:

• Device location (GPS/network) — Used solely to detect your city and fetch local weather data. Your exact coordinates are sent to weather APIs (Open-Meteo, OpenWeatherMap) to retrieve temperature, humidity, and UV index for your area. We do not store your GPS coordinates on our servers.
• City-level weather cache — When weather is fetched for your city, the weather data (temperature, humidity — not your identity or coordinates) is cached in our database (Supabase) so other users in the same city get faster results. This cache contains only weather data and city names — no user identifiers.
• On-device preferences — Your onboarding choices (name, age, weight, diet preference) are stored locally on your device using AsyncStorage. This data never leaves your phone.

2. What we do NOT collect

• We do not collect your email, phone number, or any personally identifiable information.
• We do not require account creation or login to use the app.
• We do not track your browsing history or app usage patterns.
• We do not use cookies or tracking pixels.
• We do not collect or store photos, contacts, or any device files.

3. Third-party services

Sun Se Suraksha uses the following third-party services:

• Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) — Free weather API. Receives your GPS coordinates to return weather data. Open-Meteo's privacy policy: open-meteo.com/en/terms
• OpenWeatherMap (openweathermap.org) — Fallback weather API. Receives GPS coordinates only when Open-Meteo is unavailable. Privacy policy: openweather.co.uk/privacy-policy
• Supabase (supabase.com) — Database for city-level weather caching. Stores only weather data and city names — no user information. Privacy policy: supabase.com/privacy
• Expo / EAS (expo.dev) — Build and update infrastructure. May collect anonymous crash reports and build metadata. Privacy policy: expo.dev/privacy

4. Location data

Sun Se Suraksha requests location permission to provide weather-based safety recommendations. Location data is:

• Used only to determine your current city for weather lookup.
• Sent to Open-Meteo / OpenWeatherMap to fetch weather data.
• Cached locally on your device (for up to 24 hours) so the app works offline.
• Never stored on our servers with any user identifier.
• Never shared with advertisers or analytics services.

You can deny location permission — the app will default to Mumbai weather data.

5. Push notifications

Sun Se Suraksha can send local push notifications (water reminders, heat alerts). These are generated entirely on your device — no data is sent to any server for notifications. You can enable or disable notifications at any time in the Tips screen or your phone's settings.

6. Data storage and security

• On-device data (preferences, cached weather, cached location) is stored using AsyncStorage, which is sandboxed to the app.
• The Supabase weather cache uses Row Level Security (RLS) policies and stores no user-identifiable data.
• All API communications use HTTPS encryption.

7. Children's privacy

Sun Se Suraksha does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The app does not require account creation or collect personal information from any user, regardless of age.

8. Data retention

• On-device cached weather data: auto-expires after 6 hours.
• On-device cached location: auto-expires after 24 hours.
• Supabase weather cache: city-level weather data, refreshed every 2 hours. No user data is retained.

Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data immediately.

9. Your rights

Since Sun Se Suraksha does not collect personal data or require accounts, there is no personal data to access, modify, or delete. Uninstalling the app removes all local data. The shared weather cache contains no user-identifiable information.

10. Advertising

Sun Se Suraksha displays minimal, non-intrusive banner advertisements powered by Google AdMob. Ads are non-personalized by default — we do not track you for ad targeting. AdMob may collect anonymous device identifiers for ad serving purposes. For more information, see Google's Privacy Policy.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
